* Various pea owners suggest that the shape of fanned tail feathers indicate whether a white pea is male or female. If the tail feathers are relatively equal in length, as shown here, the bird is female. On a male bird, the central group of 5 or so tail feathers will be noticeably longer than the surrounding tail feathers.
** According to the owner of this peacock, one way to identify males at this age is the webbing of the feather behind the wing, as illustrated in this image. The fact that these feathers are loose and wispy like the adult train feathers indicate that this is a male.
